Southwest Asia -- I’m Staff Sgt. Kerry Lewis, a 386th Expeditionary Communications Squadron client systems supervisor. I am deployed from the 2nd Communications Squadron at Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana. I initially joined the Air Force to change my life. Now that that’s done, my goal is to change other Airmen’s lives.
As the Communications Focal Point shift supervisor, I oversee the entire help desk staff and ensure that customers are receiving the appropriate assistance. This includes managing all procedures related to the identification, prioritization and resolution of customer help requests, including the monitoring, tracking, and coordination of help desk functions. I also contribute to problem resolution by giving in-person, hands-on support to customers at the desktop level.
At my home station, I supervise and mentor Airmen who perform maintenance actions on client machines. Here at Ali Al Salem, my role has a bigger area of responsibility. I not only supervise and mentor but also track trends, report daily statistics, monitor network outages, manage user accounts and coordinate network changes for United States military and coalition partners.
The biggest challenge I face is figuring out ways to make interactions with our customers seamless and more efficient. We overcome this by placing ourselves in the customers’ shoes. Being able to resolve computer issues while putting a smile on someone’s face is the best part of my job here.
My biggest professional goal is to become an Airman Leadership School instructor and to make the rank of technical sergeant by 2018. My personal goals include following God’s will for my life and setting a good example for others to follow.
Some of my hobbies are spending time with God and my family.
