SOUTHWEST ASIA – I’m Senior Airman Joseph Williams, a 386th Expeditionary Logistics Readiness Squadron administrative support specialist. I am deployed from the 612th Air Operations Center at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Ariz. I joined the Air Force because I needed some direction in my life after I graduated high school. I wanted to go to college but I was too indecisive on what major I wanted to pursue.

My job is very broad. I’m the evaluation management system administrator where I’m in charge of creating and managing end-of-tour letters of evaluation and decoration sites. Also, I am the correspondence manager. This duty entails making sure all documents are properly formatted to become official Air Force documents. I have a few additional duties as well. One of them is being the vehicle control noncommissioned officer for the command center. I’m responsible for making sure the four vehicles assigned to me are operating properly and scheduling required servicing through the vehicle management office.

My job here is somewhat the same as back home, but here in a deployed environment, I’m in a one-deep position versus having a fully-staffed commander support section where it’s possible to split some of the time-consuming work among the office. This deployment is unique because I don’t work at the Logistics Readiness Squadron at my home station so I get to see a different side of the Air Force here. I’ve had the opportunity to experience what it’s like being a logistician.

The best part of my mission is being in the position to support everyone in the squadron.
My professional goal is to get my Community College of the Air Force degree in the new Business Administration program next year. My personal goals are to get my bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management and to improve my fitness.

Some of my hobbies include working out as well as listening to music and learning how to produce it.
