SOUTHWEST ASIA – I’m Senior Airman Victor Granger, a 386th Expeditionary Civil Engineering Squadron pavements and equipment journeyman. I am deployed from the 355th CES at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Ariz. I got my associate degree in civil engineering prior to joining the Air Force, but it seemed like I needed four years of work experience to land a job. I have since decided to make it a career.

My job here includes operating construction equipment, pouring concrete, laying asphalt and sweeping the runway. My job is different here because I get to see a bigger variety and larger projects than back at home. That makes this deployment unique since I finally got to run an asphalt paver. I’ve also met a lot of new people and had the chance to see 126 degrees Fahrenheit on the thermometer.

My job can be labor intensive at times, but our team watches out for each other and we stay hydrated to help overcome the challenging environment.
The best part of my mission is learning new aspects of the job and seeing a completed project.

With the variety of equipment we use, one of my professional goals is to get time on each piece and become more proficient. My personal goals are to to move closer to family and buy a house.

Some of my hobbies include chasing around my 2-year-old daughter, movie dates with my wife, and other typical married man stuff.
