SOUTHWEST ASIA -- This week's Rock Solid Warrior is Staff Sgt. Joia Woods, a 386th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron NCO in charge at the personnel entry control point, deployed from Dobbins Air Reserve Base, Ga. The Rock Solid Warrior program is a way to recognize and spotlight the Airmen of the 386th Air Expeditionary Wing for their positive impact and commitment to the mission.
WHY DID YOU JOIN?
I joined to military to gain structure in my life. The military has given me the opportunity to see parts of the world I never thought I'd be able to see.
DEPLOYED UNIT VS HOME STATION?
As a civilian back home, I teach International Baccalaureate Visual Arts to middle schoolers in Charlotte, N.C.
GOALS?
Currently, I am finishing up some courses I need for my civilian job:
professional development and early childhood development classes.
FAVORITE PART OF MISSION?
Working with the other country nationals, contingency members and other military branches. I'm fortunate enough to see everyone that I process through the PECP on base. It helps boost the morale of the troops when we network outside of our unit/branch.
HOBBIES?
I enjoy spending time with my puppy, London. I miss hikes with London and swimming back home in the islands (St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands).
CHALLENGES?
I've worked hard to maintain the integrity of the outgoing team. Constantly making improvements to ensure we are maintaining structure. I strive for consistency and efficiency in all areas. It's also difficult being away from family but this is my fourth tour and it never gets easy. My family understands what I do and fully supports me.
