SOUTHWEST ASIA -- This week's Rock Solid Warrior is Tech. Sgt. Saralena Ramos, 386th Expeditionary Medical Group Medical Systems Administrator and Security Manager, deployed from Eglin Air Force Base, Fla. The Rock Solid Warrior program is a way to recognize and spotlight the Airmen of the 386th Air Expeditionary Wing for their positive impact and commitment to the mission.

What is your current job title and unit?  My job title is NCOIC, MCC/Systems and unit is 386 EMDG

Which squadron and base are you deployed from? I’m deployed from the 96 MDSS and stationed at Eglin AFB, FL

Why did you join the Air Force? To serve my country and get out of the small town I am from.

How is your deployed unit/job different from your home unit/job? Due to our scope of work within our career field being so broad, it is completely different. At home I dealt with admissions, dispositions and patient travel while here I am handling more medical IT work and patient transfers through aerovacs and medevacs.

What are some of your professional and personal goals? My professional goal is to excel in medical IT to eventually acquire a headquarter position in the Defense Health Agency as a senior enlisted advisor for the Health Information Technology Directorate. My personal goals are to finish Course 14 within a year so that I can focus on going back to school to get a degree in Information Managements Systems and work towards obtaining my Project Management certification.

What is your favorite part of your mission here? Maintaining our groups medical IT equipment so patient care is not hindered.

What are some of your hobbies? I like working out, playing Pokemon, and cuddling my two cats and dog while watching the Walking Dead and Netflix Original Series.

What are some of the challenges you face here? How do you overcome them?  As the only systems member for my group, I have to wear many hats and handle many programs for the group. I have learned to overcome the numerous tasks by better utilizing my email and keeping track of what needs to be completed right away and what can be saved for another day through the tasks tab in Outlook.
