SOUTHWEST ASIA -- This week’s Rock Solid Warrior is Senior Airman Brittany Edwards, the NCOIC of mental health with the 386th Expeditionary Medical Group, deployed from the 96th Medical Operation Squadron, Eglin Air Force Base, Fl.
The Rock Solid Warrior program is a way to recognize and spotlight the Airmen of the 386th Air Expeditionary Wing for their positive impact and commitment to the mission.
Why did you join the Air Force?
I joined the Air Force to challenge myself personally and professionally, and to be a part of the team and contribute to the mission.
How is your deployed unit/job different from your home unit/job?
In my home unit, I was working in the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention & Treatment (ADAPT) clinic where I did substance abuse counseling. Here, I typically see members for sleep, stress, or relationship education and counseling.
What are some of your professional and personal goals?
A professional goal of mine would be to commission as an officer within the next two years. I would also like to finish my last few classes of my bachelor’s degree and begin working on my master’s degree.
What is your favorite part of your mission here?
My favorite part of the mission here is knowing how vital every member is to the team. I enjoy learning about what other units contribute to the mission, which ultimately allows me to understand and better assist them in overcoming their current stressors.
What are some of your hobbies?
I enjoy the beach, DOGS, binge watching Grey’s Anatomy and eating a lot of Thai food.
What are some of the challenges you face here? How do you overcome them?
A challenge that we face as a mental health team is overcoming the negative stigma associated with receiving mental health care. To overcome this stigma, we try and visit as many members and units as we can to inform them that we are simply here to help them be successful and healthy throughout their deployment.
