This week’s Rock Solid Warrior is Senior Airman Jacob Wingett, an Aircrew Flight Equipment technician with the 43rd Expeditionary Electronic Combat Squadron, deployed from the 755th Operations Support Squadron, Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Ariz.

The Rock Solid Warrior program is a way to recognize and spotlight the Airmen of the 386th Air Expeditionary Wing for their positive impact and commitment to the mission.

What is your current job title and unit?

My current job title is Aircrew Flight Equipment Technician and I am with the 43rd Expeditionary Electronic Combat Squadron.

Which squadron and base are you deployed from?

I am deployed from the 755th Operations Support Squadron from Davis-Monthan AFB.

Why did you join the Air Force?

After graduating high school, I was unsure of the career path I wanted to follow. Therefore, I joined the Air Force to gain life and work experience, while I discovered what I wanted to pursue as a career.

How is your deployed unit/job different from your home unit/job?

The major difference I see, in my job, is a larger focus on the core responsibilities of my job while deployed. Back home the days can get bogged down with additional duties/programs; however, while deployed the focus is more on the main aspects of my job.

What are some of your professional and personal goals?

My major personal goal right now is to qualify for the Boston Marathon within the next 3-5 years. My major professional goal is to achieve a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, and then either pursue a Ph.D. in Psychology, or apply to medical school.

What is your favorite part of your mission here?

My favorite part of my mission here is seeing the impact of my job. Back home it is easy to lose sight of the impact of every career field. However, here I have gained a new perspective on how each career field, mine included, comes together to support the overall mission.

What are some of your hobbies?

I like being out in nature so I do a fair amount of hiking and camping. Additionally, I enjoy running and have recently gotten into marathon running, so I spend a good amount of time doing that.

What are some of the challenges you face here? How do you overcome them?

One of the biggest challenges I have encountered so far is adjusting to the change of lifestyle. Back home, after work and on the weekends, I can drive somewhere to do a scenic hike or run, but here that is not possible. There is no surefire way to overcome this challenge, but the list of movies I have seen in my lifetime has significantly grown since I have gotten here.
