This week’s Rock Solid Warrior is Senior Airman Dustin Buche, a cyber systems administrator with the 386th Expeditionary Communications Squadron, deployed from the 460th Space Communications Squadron, Buckley Air Force base, Colo.

The Rock Solid Warrior program is a way to recognize and spotlight the Airmen of the 386th Air Expeditionary Wing for their positive impact and commitment to the mission.

What is your current job title and unit?

My current job title is Cyber Systems Administrator with the 386th Expeditionary Communications Squadron.

Which squadron and base are you deployed from?

I am deployed from the 460th Space Communications Squadron
Buckley Air Force Base, Colo.

Why did you join the Air Force?

I joined the Air Force because the military was something that was always in the back of my mind. My dad was in the Navy so after my first semester of college ended I decided to talk to a recruiter.

How is your deployed unit/job different from your home unit/job?

My shop here has about a quarter of the people as my shop back home for around the same amount of work so each person has a much bigger role in getting the job done.

What are some of your professional and personal goals?

My main goal is to get my bachelor’s degree before my enlistment ends in 2020.

What is your favorite part of your mission here?

My favorite part is actually getting to see the mission here. We support satellites back home which while important, you don’t get to really see the impact of the work. Here, you get to see planes taking off throughout the day.

What are some of your hobbies?

Some of my hobbies are skiing, hiking, and watching Netflix.

What are some of the challenges you face here? How do you overcome them?

The biggest challenge is just finding things to do in my off time. Back home I love spending time in the mountains and that’s just something you don’t have here. I’ve been getting around that by putting most of my free time into school.
