This week's Rock Solid Warrior is Tech. Sgt. Kyle Decedue, the combat arms NCOIC with the 386th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron, is deployed from 315th SFS, Joint Base Charleston, South Carolina.

The Rock Solid Warrior program is a way to recognize and spotlight the Airmen of the 386th Air Expeditionary Wing for their positive impact and commitment to the mission.

Why did you join the Air Force?

I joined the Air Force for many reasons. Initially it was a great way for me further my education and get the change of pace as a reservist, from my civilian life. After time I realized it was something bigger than myself. I enjoy the service and following after my father, who is also Security Forces and who has played a huge part in my military career.

How is your deployed unit/job different from your home unit/job?

Being deployed has a very high tempo and is resource demanding. My team issues hundreds of weapons and thousands of rounds of ammunition every day to meet an operational need for the base defense. Stateside, my reserve shop is focused mainly on weapons training and lots of classroom and range time. It makes my deployed and home station a total night and day experience.

What are some of your professional and personal goals?

Professionally, I’m finishing my 7-level career development course and anticipating promotion to TSgt in the Reserves. Civilian-side, I’m looking forward to my new position in the Special Operations Division of my civilian police department. Personally, I’m advancing my education with only a few classes remaining for my B.S. in Criminal Justice/Forensics.

What is your favorite part of your mission here?

I enjoy the warfighting aspect of base defense operations. It’s my team’s responsibility to ensure the right weapons and ammo are being employed, serviced, and repaired for our daily posting. My team and I take pride in the fact that we are the shop that keeps Security Forces armed.

What are some of your hobbies?

I really enjoy fishing, firearms and football—in that order.

What are some of the challenges you face here? How do you overcome them?

Daily challenges here include the usual high tempo operations of posting flights for base defense. Things change every day and require us to adjust accordingly. I strive to take an open approach to everything and think how each decision will affect the mission in the long run prior to implementing it.
