This week’s Rock Solid Warrior is Staff Sgt. Videsh Singh, Air Terminal Operations Center Information and Ramp Controller for
the 386th Expeditionary Logistics Readiness Squadron , deployed from the 70th Aerial Port Squadron from Homestead Air Reserve Base, Florida.

The Rock Solid Warrior program is a way to recognize and spotlight the Airmen of the 386th Air Expeditionary Wing for their positive impact and commitment to the mission.

Why did you join the Air Force?

I joined the military to become a member of the world's most powerful Air Force and for the educational benefits. I planned to go to college while in the service, using the benefits for which I qualified. My uncle was also in the service for 20 years. This seemed like a familiar vocation and I wanted to keep a family tradition of honorable service. Lastly, I wanted to travel and see the world while having a stable occupation that offered increases in salary and also paid for my training.

How is your deployed unit/job different from your home unit/job?

The 386th ELRS has a huge cargo and passenger mission sending and receiving enormous amounts of cargo and passengers to and from remote locations and back stateside. The 70th APS, since being a fighter wing, has a small aerial port mission and focuses more on training to keep our members ready and qualified to deploy or support the Air Force on a moment's notice.

What are some of your professional and personal goals?

One of my professional goals coming here was to complete the Airman Leadership School distance learning course. I was able to study and complete the course in 3 months of being here, which made me extremely happy and allowed me to be promoted to staff sergeant while deployed. One personal goal of mine is to purchase a home in the near future and start a new chapter in life.

What is your favorite part of your mission here?

My favorite part of the mission here is being able to see how all of the cargo and passengers we move directly affect the mission. It gives you a sense of how important and vital you are to the mission.

What are some of your hobbies?

A couple of my hobbies that I enjoy are cooking, volunteering, bodybuilding/fitness, hiking, hunting and traveling.

What are some of the challenges you face here? How do you overcome them?

The biggest challenge I faced while being deployed was time management. Working the long hours of the aerial port, 12 hour days, six days a week, made it difficult but not impossible to work on my professional military education, physical fitness and most important keeping a connection to my loved ones at home in Florida. I created a schedule and routine that allowed me to have study time and allowed me to keep up with my physical fitness five days a week. Having a eight hour time difference was also a challenge, but I would set aside time to make phone calls home to stay connected with everyone.
