This week’s Rock Solid Warrior is Staff Sgt. David Larson, noncommissioned officer in charge of the Base Defense Operation Center with the 386th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron, deployed from the 944th Security Forces Squadron at Luke Air Force Base.

The Rock Solid Warrior program is a way to recognize and spotlight the Airmen of the 386th Air Expeditionary Wing for their positive impact and commitment to the mission.

Why did you join the Air Force?

I joined the Air Force after being inspired to follow in my father’s footsteps of community service. He has served as a police officer and sheriff’s deputy for over 30 years.

How is your deployed unit/job different from your home unit/job?

My home station job is supply sergeant so I typically coordinate logistics in support of our unit’s mission to train for deployment. As a BDOC controller I coordinate the response of the Mission Support Group first responders, host nation forces, and other wing agencies in reference to base safety and security.

What are some of your professional and personal goals?

Professionally my goal is to continue progressing in both my Air Force and civilian career. My personal goal is to spend every free minute I have with my family on our boat.

What is your favorite part of your mission here?

My favorite part of my mission here is getting to work with Security Forces Airman from all over the country.

What are some of your hobbies?

I enjoy spending the weekends on the water with my family. When not at the lake we spend a lot of time at the gym.

What are some of the challenges you face here? How do you overcome them?

The biggest challenge I have faced here is adjusting from being a fly away security member to being a BDOC controller. I was able to overcome the challenge by utilizing the training materials and resources put in place by the previous rotations.
