This week’s Rock Solid Warrior is Staff Sgt. Nathan Schmuelling, munitions inspector with the 386th Expeditionary Maintenance Squadron, deployed from the 23rd Equipment Maintenance Squadron, Moody Air Force Base, Georgia.

The Rock Solid Warrior program is a way to recognize and spotlight the Airmen of the 386th Air Expeditionary Wing for their positive impact and commitment to the mission.

What is your current job title and unit?

My current job title is munitions inspector with the 386th Expeditionary Maintenance Squadron

Which squadron and base are you deployed from?

I am deployed from the 23rd Equipment Maintenance Squadron, Moody Air Force Base, Georgia.

Why did you join the Air Force?

I joined the Air Force to get away from the small town lifestyle and to see new places.

How is your deployed unit/job different from your home unit/job?

Currently at my home unit I am a precision guided munitions inspector. I deal with all categories of munitions ranging from small arms rounds to missiles or guided bomb units.

What are some of your professional and personal goals?

One of my professional goals would be to continue to develop my skills as a supervisor and ultimately make Tech. Sgt. my first time testing. A short term personal goal that I have while I am here is to take a few CLEPs to get closer to achieving my CCAF degree.

What is your favorite part of your mission here?

The best part of the mission here is that we never know what the day is going to entail. More often than not, the challenge is greeted with a smile on everyone’s face and the task is completed.
What are some of your hobbies?

My two biggest hobbies would be weight lifting and playing softball for the Moody Air Force Base, team.

What are some of the challenges you face here? How do you overcome them?
The biggest challenge that we have faced so far would be the amount of munitions that move in out of here at a moment's notice. To overcome this issue, we have to plan accordingly and work with many on and off base agencies, to ensure there are no interruption to the flow of munitions in and out of the AOR.
