U.S. CENTRAL COMMAND AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY -- Airmen from the 386th Financial Management flight and the 386th Expeditionary Contracting Squadron worked long days and long nights to complete the 2024 fiscal year closeout for the 386th Air Expeditionary Wing, Sept. 30 , 2024 within the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility, continuing success from last year’s fiscal year closeout.
Every year, the U.S. Air Force is given a set amount of funds every year and it is up to contracting and comptroller to work with their Wing’s respective units to effectively spend every dollar appropriated to their Wing by the end of the fiscal year.
As responsible stewards of American taxpayers’ money, the 386th ECONS and 386th FM ensured funds were executed before the deadline for mission-essential and quality-of-life improvement contracts for all units. Those improvements include infrastructure repairs, new equipment for units, facility remodeling and any other improvement to units that ensure mission readiness.
While the finance office provides funding and ensures that the correct amount of money goes towards the proper funds, the contracting office collects the pricing, negotiates, and awards contracts with vendors.
In the last 6 months, the 386th ECONS and 386th FM teams increased the Wing’s overall buying power by $12.7 million, doubling their original budget, while simultaneously executing $18 million to successfully close out FY24. Their portfolio optimization funded $1.1 million worth of quality of life improvements in addition to maintaining the base’s annual mission critical requirements, and culminated in securing $9.3 million of U.S. Air Forces Central Command’s fallout funding to further elevate the base from expeditionary to enduring.
