"We are here to ensure one more day, one more week, one more month of peace," said Col. David Farrow, 386th Air Expeditionary Wing, commander. "That is our measure of merit."

Farrow was speaking to a group of Airman who had just arrived at their deployed location in Southwest Asia.

The newly-arrived Airmen, groggy from their travels and battling sleep deprivation, nonetheless listened intently as Farrow and each division chief briefed them on what they needed to know to be successful during their deployment.

The welcome messages and helpful tips came from many different sources.

"Get it right, right out of gate," said Chief Master Sgt. Herried, the interim Command Chief. "This location is pure gold to accomplish achievements."

"Make sure you're drinking eight to 10 bottles of water a day," said the medical group representative.

"Shred everything but food," said Capt. John Hartstock, the wing's Operations Security lead.

The group of approximately 60 Airmen also heard informational and inspirational messages from the safety office and civil engineering, the chaplain's office and public affairs, the inspector general's office and the finance office. By the end of the briefing the group was well-informed and ready for lunch.

"We are here to generate air power," Farrow said. "I'm glad you're here and I'm looking forward to serving with you."
