  • 386th Expeditionary Communications Squadron
Rank/First & Last Name: Senior Airman Corey Kinsler

Deployed Unit: 386th Expeditionary Communications Squadron

Duty Title: System Administrator

Home unit/station: Langley AFB/ ACC Communications Support Squadron (CSS)

Family's military heritage: I am the first to join in my immediate family.

What is your mission here? My mission here is to provide high level support for the various communication applications and systems here on base.

What are some of the best parts of your mission? Being able to contribute to the broader mission of providing communication for those here and abroad.

What are some of the challenges you face while conducting your mission, and how do you overcome them? The biggest challenge in my mission here is just trying to take in the wealth of knowledge that is given to us by our civilian counterparts as well as fellow airmen with different skill sets. For me the best way to stay ahead is to keep plenty of notes and find ways to apply my new knowledge as often as possible.

How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base? Here I am much more hands on with the equipment and able to see a direct impact of my work.

How many times have you deployed? First deployment.

What makes this deployment unique? Well with this being my first deployment everything so far has been a new experience. The one thing I do enjoy is the collective effort by everyone to keep the morale up with plenty of activities and the degree of wingmanship displayed by my peers.

Why did you join the Air Force? I joined because I wanted to serve my country as well as to find a challenging career that I would enjoy.
