  • Published
  • 386th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron
Rank/First & Last Name: Senior Amn. Ezra Dilbert

Deployed Unit: 386th Expeditionary Security Forces

Duty Title: Response force leader

Home unit/station: 21st SFS/Peterson AFB, CO.

Family's military heritage: My uncle (Edwin Stuart, MSG, USA) still active.

What is your mission here? Air Base Defense/Security Patrol/ Response Force.

What are some of the best parts of your mission? Protecting personnel and resources vital to national security, meeting new people from different squadrons and interacting/working with our host nation military.

What are some of the challenges you face while conducting your mission, and how do you overcome them? The challenges I face are unknown/suspicious activity against personnel or resources, and unauthorized personnel that may enter the base. I overcome it by living by the Air Force Core Values of service before self, integrity first, and excellence in all we do. Also by staying focused and maintaining attention to detail. I received excellent pre-deployment training before I arrived in the Area Of Responsibility and trust in my fellow wingmen. Finally, I keep close contact with my family ensuring them of my safety and by going to the many establishments that our host nation has to offer.

How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base? The job is different over here because we are asked to go above and beyond the normal security/law enforcement duties. As an Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron we can be tasked to forward deploy at a minutes notice, we support other bases throughout our host nation and the area of responsibility; we have off base patrols and conduct joint operations with other squadrons/ branches as well as our host nation military.

How many times have you deployed? This is my third deployment.

What makes this deployment unique? This is my first deployment not in a direct combat zone and as a fire team leader. Also having troops that I supervise and increased responsibility.

Why did you join the Air Force?
I joined the Air Force to travel the world, complete school, meet new people, and be part of something bigger than myself.
