  • 386th Air Expeditionary Wing Public Affairs
Name: Staff Sgt. Yoshika Enlow

Deployed Unit: 386th Expeditionary Maintenance Squadron

Duty Title: Maintenance Management Analyst

Home unit/station: 437th Maintenance Operations Squadron, Joint Base Charleston, S.C.

Family's military heritage: My uncle, dad's brother, is a Sergeant Major in Marines, Michael Nash. I also have another uncle, mom's brother, Stevie Enlow, which is a Master Sergeant in the Air Force.

What is your mission here?
My mission here is to provide leadership and reporting agencies, such as AFCENT, with the most current "health of the fleet." The products provided will ensure that our mission is being accomplished within guidelines of AFI 21-101. Analysis shows trends for areas of improvement for the Maintenance and Aircraft Maintenance Squadrons. I am committed in assuring that maintenance data is being compiled to give an on-demand analysis of our Mission's capabilities.

What are some of the best parts of your mission? I love math, so the best part of my mission is calculating rates and trends that are shown in AFCENT monthly reports and the MXG production meetings.

What are some of the challenges you face while conducting your mission, and how do you overcome them? Some challenges I face would be making revisions to existing procedures and making changes. With changes, comes learning, thus growing.

How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base?
My job differs in a deployed location vs. home base because I am extracting data for different airframes and models. Also, the reporting procedures are different. Trends that are pertinent in deployment bases may not be the same as the information at home station.

How many times have you deployed?
I have deployed twice and I have analyzed a total of three different airframes (MDS - Mission Design Series).

What makes this deployment unique?
The atmosphere makes this deployment unique. The focus is the mission, but everyone strives to help each other to come together as a team.

Why did you join the Air Force
? Initially, my uncles were persistent on me joining the Air Force. Although they were proud, having full scholarships offered from colleges was not enough. They told me that I had the drive to join the military, start a career, and earn a college degree while doing this at the same time. I was scared at first, but I'm happy I joined. The Air Force has helped me understand the need for "attention to detail" and the importance of guidance.
