Name: Staff Sgt. Jonathan Marion

Deployed Unit: 387th Expeditionary Support Squadron

Duty Title: 387th Air Expeditionary Group Emergency Manager

Home unit/station: 14th Civil Engineer Squadron, Columbus Air Force Base, Miss.

How do you support the mission here? As the 387th AEG Emergency Manager, I support the "Every Tiger a Defender, Every Tiger a First Responder" Program by providing emergency management training and guidance to all personnel. This program ensures we can prepare for, respond to, and recover from an "all-hazards" environment. Additionally, I lead the 387th AEG Exercise Evaluation Team program which ensures our procedures work if the need arises.

How many times have you deployed and what makes this deployment unique? Second deployment. This deployment is unique because I am not part of an Emergency Management Flight. Normally, I am assigned to either the Training, Plans and Operations section or Logistics section of my flight; but being the only Emergency Manager here, I am often called upon to provide expertise in all three sections. Additionally, the geographically separated nature of the 387th AEG presents a unique situation that makes emergency planning challenging.

How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base? At home station, I normally focus on responding to terrorist attacks involving CBRNE/HazMat and also other incidents of national significance. Here I am not an emergency responder; instead, I provide emergency planning guidance and training for other emergency responders. Additionally, my role as the 387th AEG EET chief puts me in a position not normally filled by an Emergency Manger.
