Valentine's Day is usually a holiday where people get to show their significant other a little more attention and appreciation. For firefighters from the 386th Expeditionary Civil Engineering Squadron, this was a day where they showed their profession a little more attention and appreciation.

Firefighters performed aircraft rescue and fire fighting on an aircraft fire simulator at an undisclosed location in Southwest Asia. For two weeks in February, 40 firefighters participated in this live fire training, which ensures that they are capable of responding to an emergency that would involve an aircraft fire.

"Firefighting is a perishable skill that needs to be refreshed often, and because we thankfully have very few aircraft fires we must refresh our skills with the use of a simulator," said Senior Master Sgt. Thomas McDonough, 386th ECES fire chief, native of St. Paul, Minn., deployed from the 133rd Civil Engineering Squadron, St. Paul, Minn. "This is the first time that we have been able to do live fire ARFF burns on this deployment."
