Name: Senior Airman Christopher Hall

Deployed Unit: 386th Expeditionary Operations Group

Duty Title: Knowledge Operations Manager

Home unit/station: 48th Fighter Wing, Royal Air Force Lakenheath, UK

How do you support the mission here? Being a Knowledge Operations Manager means to be versatile. One key factor to supporting the mission would be administering the written test that provides driving access to the air field to any and all members stationed here needing this permission. As a Unit Travel Representative for the 386 Expeditionary Operations Group, I track and process the redeployment for EOG members, securing proper turnover time with their inbound replacements and precise outbound travel. I also serve as a Project, Workflow, Requirements, and Resource Manager Representative and Automatic Data Processing Equipment Custodian providing the EOG and its members with a direct point of contact in acquiring the computer equipment and work associated to further the success of the mission at hand. I also provide a slight boost in morale serving as a Unit Mail Clerk providing a convenient location on the flight-line for EOG members, those that are restricted in free time in particular, to pick up their highly sought after letters and parcel. In addition, I am also a GCC Representative, Security Manager, Emergency Management Representative and Record Custodian.

How many times have you deployed and what makes this deployment unique? I have only deployed once and being that this is my first, makes it extremely unique. Very interesting to see how differently things are accomplished in a deployed location compared to home station. It is also equally unique being able to interact with the various service branches, local nationals and allied forces all in one location.

How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base? The title stays the same but the day-to-day tasks are definitely different. Home base I work in a CCA position for the base commander. Other than the various random taskings I may receive, I serve as the focal point for all incoming wing eligible evaluations and decorations, thoroughly reviewing each to ensure the correct format and procedures have been implemented before forwarding to the Command Chief and Wing Commander for approval and signatures. In my current deployed location I am at the Group level and the closest I get to evaluations is building EMS sites for supervisors to upload and process their members LOEs and decorations. I mainly work rather large additional duties that consume most of the work day such as Unit Travel Representative, Flight Line Driving Test Proctor, and Unit Mail Clerk.
