Rock Solid Warrior: Staff Sgt. Michael Farey Published Oct. 25, 2011 386th Air Expeditionary Wing Public Affairs SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Name: Staff Sgt. Michael Farey Deployed Unit:737th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron Duty Title: Instructor Flight Engineer Home unit/station: 36th Airlift Squadron, Yokota Air Base, Japan How do you support the mission here? Fly Air Force Central Command directed missions supporting both theaters, mainly Operation New Dawn missions including and various Channel missions supporting the Iraqi drawdown. Favorite movie: The Other Guys, or any movie with Will Ferrell (except for the serious ones) Favorite restaurant: Rosas Café in Texas, everything is better in Texas. Favorite superhero: Wolverine because my wife is in love with Hugh Jackman. Place you would most like to vacation to or visit: Bali since that is where my wife wants to visit the most. Favorite actor/actress: Will Ferrell Favorite food: Chicken or anything high in protein. Favorite musical group/musician/singer: Brooks and Dunn. Taylor Swift is my favorite singer. She has many talents including, singing, writing music, playing guitar. How many times have you deployed and what makes this deployment unique? I have deployed twice. The first deployment I worked on the flight line as a C-130 Crew Chief at the 379th Air Expeditionary Wing where I only got to hear stories about the war from Aircrew. This time I get to actually see firsthand the impact we have on the mission which makes this deployment more rewarding yet more challenging. How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base? At home base I have to juggle many tasks, including family and extra duties, which takes time out of my day to focus on being a Engineer. My job in a deployed environment is strictly focused on the mission which makes it easier in a sense, yet I am constantly facing challenges that I would never experience at Yokota. I am excited to return home with new experiences and a new bag of tricks that I can use to instruct a new generation of Engineers.
