Rock Solid Warrior: Senior Airman Joshua Kindell

  • Published
The 386th Air Expeditionary Wing's Rock Solid Warrior comes from the 386th Expeditionary Operations Group.

Name: Senior Airman Joshua Kindell

Unit: 737th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron

Duty title: C-130E/H Loadmaster

Home unit/station: 53rd Airlift Squadron, Little Rock Air Force Base, Ark.

How do you support the mission here? I am responsible for the safe loading/unloading and transportation of passengers and cargo throughout the area of responsibility. I also ensure the aircraft will safely fly by performing preflight inspections and weight and balance calculations prior to each sortie. While my duties on the aircraft are extensive and laborious, I take a lot of pride in being someone who is upbeat and enthusiastic every day. I love making people laugh and my energetic attitude helps folks feel at ease during long and hot missions. You can bet I will be the first one to crack a joke, or offer a helping hand.

Favorite movie: "The Prestige"

Favorite restaurant: The Flying Saucer in Little Rock, Ark.

Favorite superhero: Spider-Man

Place you would most like to vacation to or visit: Australia

How many times have you deployed and what makes this deployment unique? This is my second deployment. Unlike my first, I've traveled to many different places inside and outside of the Middle East. I have had the privilege of serving in both Operation NEW DAWN and ENDURING FREEDOM these last few months, and had the opportunity to serve with Airmen from all over the globe.

Favorite actor/actress: Christian Bale

Favorite food: Mom's manicotti

Favorite musical group/musician/singer: Garth Brooks and The Zac Brown Band

How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base? While at home station, most of our flights consist of training and knowledge preparation. I hardly fly with the same crew twice in a row. During a deployment, I fly with the same crew every mission. It creates a bond of camaraderie that can be trusted and relied upon to complete the mission and take care of one another both on and off duty. Our missions out here are much more dynamic, creating challenges not faced at home station.
