Rock Solid Warrior: Staff Sgt. Ronald Cruz

  • Published
This week's 386th Air Expeditionary Wing Rock Solid Warrior comes from the 386th Expeditionary Medical Group.

Name: Staff Sgt. Ronald Cruz

Unit: 386th Expeditionary Medical Group

Duty Title: Bioenvironmental Engineering NCOIC

Home unit/station: 95th Aerospace Medicine Squadron, Edwards Air Force Base, Calif.

How do you support the mission here? I help keep our members healthy by performing occupational and environmental health risk assessments and recommending controls to mitigate hazards. I manage the water surveillance program, ensure operation of $300,000 chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear equipment in detection equipment and provide hazardous material response, and am the 386th EMDG emergency management representative. Additionally, I am actively involved in our base's Honor Guard.

How many times have you deployed and what makes this one unique? This is my second deployment. This deployment is unique because it is my first deployment in my current career field.

How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base? My job here is based on the same principles as home station; our career field concept is 'in-garrison equals deployed.' However, the tempo here is higher because our team is very lean at this location compared to home station.
