Rock Solid Warrior: Staff Sgt. Shelley Carter Published Jan. 14, 2011 SOUTHWEST ASIA -- This week's 386th Air Expeditionary Wing Rock Solid Warrior comes from the 386th Expeditionary Medical Group Name: Staff Sgt. Shelley Carter Unit: 386th Expeditionary Medical Group Job: Medic Home station: 55th Medical Operations Squadron, Offutt Air Force Base, Bellevue, Neb. How do you support the mission here? We support the mission through the medical care the medical group provides. We also support the mission by ensuring inbound and outbound deployers are medically processed, in-flight emergency coverage and ambulance support. How many times have you deployed and what makes this one unique? I have deployed twice. This deployment is unique because we support the entire area of responsibility (Iraq and Afghanistan). During my other deployment, I just supported the Iraq mission. How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base? At home base I work in the allergy/immunization clinic. When I deploy I cover the immunizations but my primary job is patient care (ie: blood pressures, ambulance runs, starting IVs, draw labs, and minor procedures).
