Rock Solid Warrior: Senior Airman Jada Respondek

  • Published
This week's 386th Air Expeditionary Wing Rock Solid Warrior comes from the 387th Expeditionary Logistics Readiness Squadron.

Name:
Senior Airman Jada Respondek

Unit: 387th Expeditionary Logistics Readiness Squadron / 70th Medium Truck Detachment

Job: Vehicle Operator

Home station: 86th Vehicle Readiness Squadron; Ramstein Air Base, Germany

How do you support the mission here?
We're the ones behind the wheel of the tractor-trailers. We ensure that cargo of all types, including everything from ammo to AAFES products, gets where it's required to go, whether it's here or one of the numerous Contingency Operating Bases throughout Iraq. Without our trucks and our drivers, this mission would not be possible.

How many times have you deployed and what makes this deployment unique?
This Joint Expeditionary Tasked-deployment is my first. Convoy deployments are unique because we are out here working hand-in-hand with our Army brothers and sisters, going outside the wire to accomplish the mission. This type of mission is unique in the Air Force, so very few Airmen get an opportunity like this.

How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base?
I must say the two are very different. The intensity level in a deployed environment is much higher. You develop greater pride in yourself and your job when you're out here. That's not to say I'm not proud of my job back home, but being deployed gives me a different outlook. I think coming here and doing what we do will change the way I handle my job when I go back to my home station.
