Rock Solid Warrior: Senior Airman Ashley Jacobscrumback

  • Published
This week's 386th Air Expeditionary Wing Rock Solid Warrior comes from the 386th Expeditionary Operations Support Squadron.

Name: Senior Airman Ashley Jacobscrumback

Unit: 386 Expeditionary Operations Support Squadron

Job: Aircrew Flight Equipment Journeyman

Home station: 374th Operations Support Squadron; Yokota Air Base, Japan

How do you support the mission here?
I inspect, adjust and maintain all aircrew flight equipment, including flight helmets, oxygen masks and helmet-mounted devises like night vision goggles. Our equipment is on every plane that flies, and every aircrew member flying with it. Without the support of our life-sustaining oxygen masks and quick-dons, today's Air Force pilots and other aircrew members would not be able to sustain operations. Currently, I and my teammates administer full support for all C-130 and C-17 missions here, providing parachutes, flotation devices, respiratory equipment and body armor with survival vests.

How many times have you deployed and what makes this deployment unique?
This is my first deployment. It is a privilege to be given an opportunity to really make a difference. Being here has helped me and others in my shop see how our job greatly impacts overall mission accomplishment. I have been deployed here for eight weeks now, and so far I have enjoyed meeting different individuals from various bases, as well as experiencing a bit of the unique and diverse culture. There's nothing better than the satisfaction of knowing that our aircrew are safely flying their missions with the best equipment possible. Not only has this deployment brought out a sense of pride in myself and others around me, but I have found it has opened up ample opportunities for self-improvement, from school and physical well-being to work-related activities. Throughout the continuation of my Air Force career, I hope to be given more opportunities like this one -- to make a difference.
