Rock Solid Warrior: Tech. Sgt. Melissa Landau Published Nov. 19, 2010 SOUTHWEST ASIA -- This week's 386th Air Expeditionary Wing Rock Solid Warrior comes from the 386th Expeditionary Medical Group. Name: Tech. Sgt. Melissa M. Landau Unit: 386th Expeditionary Medical Group Job: Contingency Aero-Medical Staging Facility (CASF) Shift-leader and Aerospace Medical Craftsman Home unit: 88th Medical Operations Squadron; Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio How do you support the mission here? I and my team are primarily responsible for the movement of injured personnel from all areas within the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility. We receive patients from joint service bases throughout the AOR, ensure they are medically stabilized and prepare them for air transport to advanced medical treatment facilities. I also work at the 386th Expeditionary Medical Squadron (EMEDS) Clinic to ensure that world-class medical care is available to everyone here. How many times have you deployed? What makes this one unique? This is my second deployment. It differs from the last one in that the quality is much better here than it was at my last deployed location. My housing is now a hardened building, and I have running water in both my work center and my quarters. How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base? At my home base, I serve as an Emergency Department shift-leader who is responsible for the health and welfare of all the people who receive treatment in my department. Here, I am involved in the continued care of transient personnel who pass through the CASF and EMEDS, ensuring they receive the highest level of care necessary for their injury or illness. Whether I'm here or back home, a patient with any type of medical emergency could walk through the door, so I must always be ready for anything.
