'Port Dawgs' keep cargo moving
SOUTHWEST ASIA - A C-17 closes its doors at an undisclosed base here Nov. 3, 2010, after being loaded with pallets of cargo by Airmen from the 386th Expeditionary Logistics Readiness Squadron Aerial Port. Known informally as "Port Dogs," Aerial port Airmen inspect and palletize all cargo before shipment, from food and water to ammunition and rolling stock. They also work closely with aircraft loadmasters to carefully position the cargo inside aircraft, loading it into planes with massive forklifts or special flat-bed trucks known as K-loaders.
