Rock Solid Warrior Published Oct. 15, 2010 SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Name: Airman 1st Class Nastasha K. Guerrero Unit: 386th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron Duty Title: Security Response Force member Home station: 95th Security Forces Squadron, Edwards Air Force Base, Calif. How do you support the mission here? As a Security Forces member, I support Operation New Dawn by ensuring the safety of all personnel and war-fighting assets on the installation. This is accomplished by maintaining meticulous entry-control procedures, conducting thorough vehicle searches and patrolling the base perimeter as a member of a quick-response force. How many times have you deployed and what makes this deployment unique? This is my first deployment. I appreciate having the opportunity to patrol off the installation and visit with the local camp landowners and their caretakers. During these visits we establish valuable friendships. I have also had the opportunity to assist my area supervisors with plotting and creating data sheets on new encampments. It is very exciting when we have the chance to go out and meet the new owners and attempt to establish rapport by building a trusting relationship. The camp visits are a vital aspect of keeping our installation and its perimeter protected. I am happy I have the opportunity to be a key part of the mission. How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base? My home-station assignment is in the California desert. I knew prior to deploying that the climate, terrain and overall environment wouldn't change too much once I arrived in theater. The air base security we incorporate here is very similar to what we do at home station in most regards. The major difference is in having the chance to interact with local nationals and third-country nationals on a daily basis in conjunction with my duties. Just being around the different cultures and having the opportunity to learn about them has been a very enjoyable experience. I now have a better understanding of the people in the region and look forward to building upon my experience throughout the rest of my current deployment and career.
