The Department of Defense is kicking off its annual charitable-contribution campaign Oct. 4, giving members of the 386th Air Expeditionary Wing the opportunity to improve the lives of people and communities in need by donating to approved service organizations around the world.

The Combined Federal Campaign-Overseas, which will run through Dec. 3, is the only authorized solicitation of Federal employees on behalf of approved charitable organizations. This year's fund-raising goal is $15.7 million, campaign officials said.

"Every member of the 386th Air Expeditionary Wing will be given the opportunity to participate in the 2010 CFC-O," said Col. Patrick Mordente, 386th AEW commander. "If you have never participated in the campaign, please join us. If you have given in the past, I thank you for your support and invite you to participate again this year."

The campaign features more than 2,300 charities from which contributors can choose a cause that matches their individual passions. Contributors can give using a traditional paper Pledge Card or through e-Giving at www.cfcoverseas.org.

Contributors who are interested in supporting their local overseas military communities can make a contribution to the Family Support and Youth Programs. Donations to FSYP are returned to the installation to support quality of life programs for overseas service members and their families.

"Uniformed and civilian personnel are seeing the need every day through their service to our nation," said Renée S. Acosta, president and CEO of Global Impact, a management firm that administers the campaign. "Due to their generosity, last year's campaign provided more than $15.6 million to support the important work of charities around the world. This year, our goal is to raise $15.7 million because the needs are greater than ever."
