Rock Solid Warrior Published July 23, 2010 SOUTHWEST ASIA -- This week's 386th Air Expeditionary Wing Rock Solid Warrior comes from the 386th Expeditionary Civil Engineer Squadron. Name: Tech. Sgt. Drew Stonecipher Unit: 386th Expeditionary Civil Engineer Squadron Duty Title: Fire Station 2 Station Captain Home unit/station: 161st Air Refueling Wing, Arizona Air National Guard Base, Phoenix How do you support the mission here? As a station captain, it is my responsibility to assign firefighting crews for each shift, ensure personnel are prepared for duty by conducting training and drills, and ensure that all issues with either apparatus or the station are resolved. I also respond to medical, structural, hazardous materials, and in-flight emergencies as a safety officer or assistant to the incident commander. How many times have you deployed, and what makes this deployment unique? This is my first deployment as a firefighter, so it is a new experience. My first Air Force assignment was as a B-2 crew chief, which did not require me to deploy. In my current role as a firefighter/paramedic, I have the opportunity to provide Advanced Life Support off base for several missions and exercises. That in itself has been a new and exciting experience which has afforded me the opportunity to become a better military firefighter/paramedic while deployed on active duty, and a better civilian firefighter/paramedic back home.
