Rock Solid Warrior Published May 28, 2010 SOUTHWEST ASIA -- This week's 386th Air Expeditionary Wing Rock Solid Warrior comes from the 386th Expeditionary Contracting Squadron. Name: Staff Sgt. Chris Mavron Unit: 386th Expeditionary Contracting Squadron Duty Title: Contracting officer Home unit/station: 9th Contracting Squadron, Beale Air Force Base, Calif. How do you support the mission here? I support the 386th Air Expeditionary Wing mission by providing contracting support and sound business advice to all units on the installation. I control and administer numerous service contracts, to include septic and custodial services, as well as the maintenance of pop-up barriers at each of the entry control points. Furthermore, I deal directly with vendors in the local area who, in turn, provide various supplies and services used to support the mission here. How many times have you deployed and what makes this deployment unique? This is my first deployment and I have to say that it's been a pleasant experience thus far. How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base? My job here differs from that of my home station mainly due to the fact that I have signature authority on all of my contracts here. At my home base, I am simply a contract administrator; I report to a contracting officer who signs off on all of my contract actions. Also, the language barrier, while minimal, can make my job here more challenging at times.
