Rock Solid Warrior Published May 15, 2010 SOUTHWEST ASIA -- This week's 386th Air Expeditionary Wing Rock Solid Warrior comes from the Command Post. Name: Senior Airman Holly Turner Unit: 386th Air Expeditionary Wing Command Post Duty title: Command post controller Home station: Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii How do you support the mission here? As a command post controller, I am a facilitator between all agencies for passenger and cargo movements throughout the U.S. Air Forces Central Command area of responsibility. I also track any off base travel for the safety of the troops deployed here and am an emergency point of contact for the 586th Air Expeditionary Group, which conducts convoy cargo movements for Operation Iraqi Freedom. How many times have you deployed and what makes this deployment unique? This is my first deployment. The culture here is much better than I expected. It's like a small community where everyone knows everyone. Everyone has to work together to get the job done. How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base? In a deployed location, the impact on the mission is more direct. At my home station we execute more humanitarian missions as opposed to contingency missions. Being in the middle of the war effort requires a slightly different mindset. Not only are we supporting personnel and cargo movements, we're also rebuilding a country. I have a lot of satisfaction in knowing that I have played a part of that.
