Rock Solid Warrior

  • Published
This week's 386th Air Expeditionary Wing Rock Solid Warrior comes from the 386th Expeditionary Operations Support Squadron.

Name: Senior Airman Paul Wilson

Unit:
386th Expeditionary Operations Support Squadron

Duty title: Aircrew Flight Equipment specialist

Home unit/station: 317th Operations Support Squadron, Dyess Air Force Base, Texas

How do you support the mission here?
As Aircrew Flight Equipment specialists, we provide aircrew members with the equipment and knowledge necessary to survive, in case something was to go wrong. In doing so, we allow the aircrew to focus on the mission at hand.

How many times have you deployed and what makes this one unique?
This is my first deployment to the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility, so everything is obviously completely new to me. It was necessary for me to adjust to the new surroundings and get into a routine on the go. With that being said, it hasn't been all that bad. The facilities and installation have far exceeded my expectations.

How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base?
Honestly, our job itself doesn't necessarily change out here in the AOR. Essentially; this is what we've been preparing for back home. The only differences in the locations are the higher OPSTEMPO work hours, and days spent working in the shop; not to mention the obvious higher threat conditions presented.
