Rock Solid Warrior

  • Published
This week's 386th Air Expeditionary Wing Rock Solid Warrior comes from the 386th Expeditionary Medical Group.

Name: Senior Airman Nikayla Locher

Unit: 386th Expeditionary Medical Group Contingency Aeromedical Staging Facility

Duty title: Aerospace medical service technician

Home unit/base: Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio

How do you support the mission here?
I support the mission by providing medical care to members of the 386th Air Expeditionary Wing and to those passing through the base here. I work in the emergency medical clinic where I screen patients, help provide care and treatment and respond to base emergencies. While in the CASF, I assist with patient care during their stay here and help make their transition to a higher facility of care as comfortable and smooth as possible.

How many times have you deployed and what makes this one unique?
This is my second deployment here and what makes this deployment unique is that it's a different group of people which makes for a different experience.

How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base?
At home I work in a women's health clinic where we see more dependents and retirees than active duty. Here, I am able to work with a different group of patients with different types of injuries. I am able to use more of my medical skills and also learn new skills.
