Rock Solid Warrior Published April 16, 2010 SOUTHWEST ASIA -- This week's 386th Air Expeditionary Wing Rock Solid Warrior comes from the 386th Expeditionary Maintenance Squadron. Name: Staff Sgt. Richard S. Johnson IV Unit: 386th Expeditionary Maintenance Squadron Duty Title: Composite tool kit custodian/Electrical and environmental systems craftsman Home unit/base: 374th Maintenance Squadron, Yokota Air Base, Japan How do you support the mission here? I, along with other CTK personnel, provide tools and equipment to aircraft maintenance personnel. As a CTK custodian/shift supervisor, I distribute and maintain tools and equipment valued over $2.5 million as well as supervise five other CTK custodians. We provide support and equipment availability for EC-130's, C-130's, C-17's and transient aircraft. Our team consistently inspects tools and equipment to ensure we provide technicians the highest quality equipment to accomplish the flying mission. In addition to my CTK responsibilities, I also maintain the largest hazardous waste and hazardous material program in the 386th Expeditionary Maintenance Group. How many times have you deployed and what makes this deployment unique? I am currently on my third deployment. This particular deployment is unique because I am performing a majority of duties outside of my primary Air Force specialty code. How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base? At home station, I am a maintainer who is provided tools and equipment from CTK personnel and I primarily work with personnel with the same AFSC, but here it is the opposite. I provide tools and equipment to maintainers as well as work with personnel with several different AFSCs.
