Rock Solid Warrior

  • Published
This week's 386th Air Expeditionary Wing Rock Solid Warrior comes from the 586th Air Expeditionary Group.

Name: Tech. Sgt. Beatriz Marquez

Unit: 586th Expeditionary Support Squadron

Duty title: Casualty operations NCO

Home station: Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii

How do you support the mission here?
My job in the casualty assistance center supports the mission by reporting, verifying and processing casualty information from the unit level to the Casualty and Memorial Affairs Operations Center. I also verify that the casualty's next of kin has been notified. Additionally, we act as the casualty liaison for the U.S. military hospital on Camp Arifjan and process all hostile and non-hostile casualty reports for those being treated there.

How many times have you deployed and what makes this deployment unique?
This is my first deployment and it has been fantastic. Not just because of the location, but because of the people I work with and the mission we have been assigned to do. Our mission is not just local; it includes both theaters in Afghanistan and Iraq.

How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base?
The job I'm currently doing on this deployment is not related at all to the job I do back at my home base. At home station, I process performance reports; here I'm processing casualty reports. Another difference is that I am working with the Army on a daily basis.
