Rock Solid Warrior

  • Published
This week's 386th Air Expeditionary Wing Rock Solid Warrior comes from the 386th Expeditionary Operations Support Squadron.

Name: Senior Airman Joy Teague

Unit: 386th Expeditionary Operations Support Squadron

Duty title: Knowledge operator

Home unit/base: 3rd Aerial Port Squadron, Pope Air Force Base, N.C.

How do you support the mission here?
I perform a wide range of knowledge operations from client support administrator, where I help users troubleshoot computer problems, to records management, where I oversee five office file plans and update and maintain my own. Some of my other duties include organizing and distributing mail for all the 386th EOG, and running the group control center as the primary for exercise and real world readiness.

How many times have you deployed and what makes this deployment unique?
This is my first deployment. I believe what makes it unique is being in a supervisory position as a senior airman, leading a shop with two other Airmen. It is very challenging and a great learning experience.

How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base?
I do a lot of the same things at home station that I do here. My career field is going through a lot of changes right now, so there are some differences here in the U.S. Air Force Central Command area of responsibility compared to the states. The AOR is slowly going through the consolidation, as opposed to back home where things are happening. Duties are leaving and new duties are coming. We are leaving the squadrons for the group, yet we are still manning the squadrons here.
