Rock Solid Warrior

  • Published
This week's 386th Air Expeditionary Wing Rock Solid Warrior comes from the 386th Expeditionary Maintenance Squadron.

Name: Staff Sgt. Charles Davis

Unit: 386th Expeditionary Maintenance Squadron

Duty title: NCO in charge of plans scheduling and documentation

Home unit/base: 374th Maintenance Operations Squadron, Yokota Air Base, Japan

How do you support the mission here?
My job is to track and schedule aircraft maintenance on both the C-130H and EC-130H aircraft to ensure that we are able conduct the wing's flying mission. In addition, I brief members of the 386th EMXG on aircraft swaps in and out of the 386th AEW area of responsibility to include coordinating with home station units on rotational plans.

How many times have you deployed and what makes this deployment unique?
This is my second deployment to the AOR. This deployment is unique because compared to my first deployment, I am doing the same job I do back at home station. Here, I run a two-man operation in the maintenance squadron and it's my first time in a supervisory role. It is a good experience because when I return back to Yokota I will be supervising my first troop.

How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base?
Since we have aircraft from different units, I am required to use two different maintenance databases in order to track, schedule and maintain our aircraft fleet here. I have experience with both so that makes doing the job here a lot easier. Also, in the deployed environment I don't have as many meetings to conduct and products to update.
