ROCK SOLID WARRIOR Published Nov. 13, 2009 386th Expeditionary Maintenance Group SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Senior Airman Beraiah Byerly Duty Title: Munitions Systems Crew Chief Home Unit: 86th Munitions Squadron, Ramstein Air Base, Germany How do I support the mission here? I support combat airlift and transient aircraft through the inspection and build-up of countermeasure munitions. These munitions provide defensive systems capability to enable airlift and other aircraft to move safely throughout the AOR in support of forward deployed military units. I also make certain explosive limits set forth in explosive site plans are never exceeded ensuring the safety of all assigned Airmen and resources. How many times have you deployed and what makes this one unique? This is my first deployment and I am very fortunate to be over here doing the job that I joined to do. I have three cousins that have recently returned from deployments with the Army. I feel it is my turn to do what I was trained to do. How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base? At my home station, there are many different shops associated with the munitions career field. I have worked in the same shop for two years now and I wanted to expand my capabilities and knowledge. Here, we work as one team and cover a variety of tasks associated with the career field. I have had to learn a little bit of everything since I've been here and the experience will benefit me no matter where I go.
