ROCK SOLID WARRIOR Published Oct. 12, 2009 386th Expeditionary Medical Group SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Senior Airman Amanda Crowson Duty Title: Aerospace medical service technician Home unit: 168th Air Refueling Wing, Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska How do you support the mission here? In the 386th EMEDS clinic we support personnel in all branches of the service, civilians, and some personnel visiting form surrounding installations. Some of our duties include providing ambulance service for our emergency patients, sick call, screening all incoming and outgoing personnel and giving immunizations. We are trying to keep everyone healthy through the cold and flu season by using screening techniques, education on good hygiene, vaccines, and implementing isolation procedures. How many times have you deployed and what makes this one unique? This is my first deployment and I feel fortunate for the things I am learning, the experience I'm gaining and the people I've met while I've been here. How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base? At home, I work in a small Guard unit with a smaller medical group. In our clinic, we perform flight medicine duties. Here in the AOR, I get the chance to really do the job I was trained to do. It is so nice to see how our job relates to the mission. I love being able to get our personnel back on their feet and back to work to keep the mission going.
