Tech. Sgt. Daniel Mier

Duty Title: 386th Expeditionary Maintenance Group T56 engine manager

Home Unit: 374th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, Yokota Air Base, Japan

How do you support the mission here?
I support the mission by managing an average of 20 spare C-130 engines and propellers for use on our assigned aircraft. In addition, my daily duties include serving as my unit's foreign object debris monitor, unit safety representative, vehicle control NCO, anti-terrorism representative and flightline driving representative.

How many times have you deployed and what makes this one unique?
This is my first deployment and I must say it has been enjoyable. The base has an outstanding array of quality morale programs for deployed personnel.

How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base?
My job here is completely different than at Yokota AB, Japan. At Yokota, I am the Isochronal Engine section non commissioned officer in charge where I supervisor 13 individuals. Our mission is to inspect and repair all the assigned C-130 engines and propellers. In contrast, I do not directly supervise any Airman in my position here, but I multitask much more in the performance of a diverse variety of duties. The normal tempo here has been full-speed, and I prefer it that way. When I'm busy the time goes by faster and I gain a huge sense of accomplishment from what I do. Don't forget, when there's HERKS in the air ... maintenance put em there!
