ROCK SOLID WARRIOR Published Aug. 9, 2009 386th Expeditionary Medical Group SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Senior Airman Joseph Kinglocke Deployed Unit: 386th Expeditionary Medical Group Home unit: 59th Mental Health Squadron, Lackland Air Force Base, Texas How do you support the mission here? I provide support to the 386th Expeditionary Medical Group's Contingency Aeromedical Staging Facility by helping to relieve mental health issues with the patients and when needed with staff. Also, I provide manpower support for all incoming and outgoing missions. I support the combat stress clinic, by helping to coordinate briefings, private counseling sessions and after-hours walk-in mental health support. How many times have you deployed and what makes this one unique? This is my first deployment so far. I have never been outside of the US. This is unique because here, I can see firsthand how it affects the mission. How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base? Back at my home base I work on an in-patient psychiatric ward . Here I get to see patients whose conditions aren't as severe as back home and help prevent it from getting to that level. I also get to see how the combat medics operate and I have already learned a few skills.
