Col. Richard McComb assumed command of the 386th Expeditionary Mission Support Group from Col. Marcia Meeks-Eure during a change of command ceremony at the Rock Passenger Terminal June 30.

Colonel McComb previously served as the Assistant for Antiterrorism Policy at the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations, Low Intensity Conflict and Interdependent Capabilities in Washington, D.C.

Col. Cameron Torrens, 386th Air Expeditionary Wing commander, said Colonel McComb, with his background in Security Forces, was eminently suited for role as "Mayor of the Rock."

"There's no one better prepared for the work here at the Rock than Colonel McComb," he said. "A career defender, Colonel McComb's security forces background includes command tours at Guam, the United Kingdom, Seymour-Johnson and Minot. But I forgot one. He was the squadron for the 386th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron right here at the Rock from 2000 to 2001. Welcome back, Rich. We're fortunate to have you."

Colonel McComb said his previous tour with the 386th was a rewarding one, and he knows this latest command will be so as well.

"It was just a little over nine years ago that I set foot on the base as the security forces squadron commander," he said. "That year on the Rock was one of the most rewarding experiences in my career, a unique opportunity to work with a gracious wing host, our Coalition partners and sister services and the most dedicated and professional Airmen the Air Force has to offer. So it is with great enthusiasm and nostalgia that I return to the Rock to continue that great mission."

To the Airmen of the 386th EMSG, Colonel McComb said the group would continue to hold the same level of excellence they always have.

"We are built for success," he told them. "Your skill, dedication and motivation are apparent. I look forward to getting out to the units and meeting each of you. My mission as your group commander is to ensure you have the tools, support, freedom to maneuver and guidance necessary to do this all-important work."
