Force Protection Airmen will fall under the 386th Expeditionary Civil Engineer Squadron for the first time since 2003 after a completion of a transition from the 386th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron May 27.

The 386th Air Expeditionary Wing is the last Air Forces Central wing to undergo the transition after Joint Base Balad realigned their FPs under their civil engineer squadron in December. The transition brings the 386th in line with AFCENT directives.
"By May 23 it will be a completely ECES unit," said Master Sgt. Josh Ferry, outgoing 386th ESFS FP superintendent. "My batch will leave on the 27th, and then the transition will be over."

FP Airmen conduct several force protection missions at the Rock including third country national escort and entry control point sentry. Lt. Col. James Griffin, 386th ECES commander, said the transition will not change the FPs' mission.

"There will be no change in the FP escort mission," he said. "The emphasis will still be on force protection. ESFS had fully integrated FP escorts and Security Forces into one cohesive team focused on installation security. My goal is to continue that integrated team of force protection experts."
