Staff Sgt. Nomer Evangelista

Job: Pharmacy NCOIC

Home unit: 28th Medical Support Squadron, Ellsworth Air Force Base, S.D.

How do you support the mission here? I support the mission by dispensing medications to our deployed personnel that get seen in the Medical Group so they can get back to doing their job. I also provide medications to all medical clinics around the base. I support other military hospital pharmacies and our coalition forces around the area as far as medications to get their deployed members back to the mission. I do a daily inventory of all controlled medications for accountability to prevent misuse or abuse. I make sure all medications are not expired or deteriorated. I also order all the medications we need before our supplies run out or expire.

How many times have you deployed and what makes this one unique? This is my first time deployed. It is very unique because I get the chance to take care of, not only Air Force personnel, but our sister services deployed personnel as well. I'm happy to be deployed because it's a great feeling to be part of something that is very rewarding to help out our nation.

How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base? My job here is a little bit different because, being a one man shop, I have to do everything by myself. I'm on call 24 hours a day. Back home we have about seven technicians and two pharmacists in our pharmacy that work together to finish the job and we rotate on-call duties every two months.
