The 386th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron has announced the events scheduled to take place during National Police Week 2009 May 10 - 16.

Starting in 1962, National Police Week honors the sacrifices and service made by law enforcement officers.

"National Police Week is a chance for citizens to honor the men and women of their local law enforcement agencies in their home towns that protect their children, families and personal property," said Master Sgt. Earl Wormley, 386th ESFS National Police Week coordinator. "Most of the metro police, county sheriffs and military police officers defend and secure our civil liberties every day and, if needed, are willing to sacrifice their lives to protect the common good."

Events highlighting the 386th and 387th security forces members will be held throughout the week. Some events, such as a military working dog detection challenge, are only open to security forces members, but others such as the Jail and Bail, where you can have coworkers "arrested and detained" at the Flex for a fee are open to everyone. Dodgeball, volleyball and basketball tournaments as well as a fire team challenge will be held throughout the week, and demonstrations and static displays will be give Rock members an opportunity to see security forces equipment and members in action.

Sergeant Wormley said Police Week is a time to bring law enforcement officers and the people they protect together.

"This is a time for many of us to collectively show our appreciation for the men and women that protect us and our livelihood," he said.
