Job: Aircraft Structural Maintenance Journeyman

Home unit/base: 7th Equipment Maintenance Squadron, Dyess Air Force Base, Texas

How do you support the mission here? I support the C-130E/H Aircraft by evaluating, fabricating and repairing aircraft structural components, panels, skins and hydraulic lines.

How many times have you deployed and what makes this one unique? This is my second 120-day deployment to the AOR. Both my deployments have been to here. The first time was back in 2006. The thing that makes this deployment unique is the diversity of people. There are a lot of different bases stationed here, and in my job everyone works a little different, therefore you are constantly learning new things that make you better.

How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base? Our job here doesn't differ from home station, the way we go about doing it does. While deployed you don't have the luxury of the machinery and tools that you do at home station. It makes it a little more challenging to complete a job. I think overall what makes deploying fun is thinking outside the box coming up with new ways to complete a task.
