Senior Airman Joshua McAtee

Small Computer/Peripheral Repair technician.

Home unit/base: 23rd Communications Squadron, Moody Air Force Base, Ga.

How do you support the mission here? As a Computer/Peripheral technician I am responsible for troubleshooting and fixing any desktop, laptop, scanner, digital sender or printer that comes through our shop. I am also the Automated Data Processing Equipment custodian for three accounts totaling more than 700 pieces of equipment. I provide technical support for customers and client support administrators and keep track of the job requests that come through our shop.

How many times have you deployed and what makes this one unique? This is my first deployment. It is unique because everything I now know about the deployed lifestyle has been learned here. I am glad that I got a chance to come here because I did not want to go four years without deploying. Also I am proud to serve during the holiday season and be a part of keeping my friends and family back home safe and free to enjoy themselves.

How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base? Back at home base I am a network technician rarely touch a computer. I mainly do the behind the scenes work that is not seen day to day. Here I get to see the customer and work with a lot of physical computer problems. Back at Moody AFB I deal with a lot of back office configurations and Internet protocol addressing concerns and I am also in charge of the cryptographic devices there. I do not deal with crypto here. I enjoy getting to be a part of another facet of the information technology career and I am eager to take the skills that I have learned here and become a better resource for Moody AFB.
