ROCK SOLID WARRIOR

Airman 1st Class Jesahira Early

Aviation Resource Management Flight and Ground training manager

Home unit/base: 53rd Airlift Squadron, Little Rock Air Force Base, Ark.

How do you support the mission here? My duties are to oversee aircrew flight and ground training for 102 aircrew members. I am responsible for producing unit leadership products depicting current training status. I also provide flight authorizations allowing crews to fly from one location to another. Prior to every flight, I review specific training items to ensure that aircrews don't fly in  "non-current" status, and I review qualifications for take-off, landings and emergency procedures, just to name a few. My job is to keep the crews and passengers safe by ensuring that no one flies without the proper training currencies.

How many times have you deployed and what makes this one unique? This is my first deployment, and I was very excited when I found out I'd be deploying here. I've faced many new challenges every day while striving to improve my job knowledge at the same time. Being deployed has giving me a better perspective on my career field, and next time I'll have a better frame of reference. The operations tempo is the biggest difference. The fact that we work so much with very little down time makes the time go by faster, which means the sooner I can get back home with my husband.

How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base? I come from a training base which has a completely different mission, tempo and work schedule than here at the Rock. Sometimes completing day to day duties can be much more challenging. The basic Aviation Resource manager's job remains the same whether you're at home station or deployed. Like any other base, operations tempo will dictate your workload, and the  tempo here poses its own challenges.
